The Lacie Rugged drives are really small and light, which the photo above doesn't really show you. The one I use is USB3 which is great and fast enough for my needs. The new ones now are even smaller and SSDs. Here's a photo of my drive next to my Mac Mouse. So you can see how small the drive is. They're perfect for anyone on the go and I use it all the time. 

Backup Software: Carbon Copy Cloner

I use Carbon Copy Cloner, a user-friendly app that simplifies the backup process. This software allows me to schedule and automate backups, making it easy to keep my data up-to-date without manual intervention. To be fair I don't schedule anything, I run backups as and when I need them. The reason I use software and don't just copy the data is that it takes too long. Copying 4TB of data over USB3 takes about 7-12 hours. Maybe more! The first backup will always take the longest. Then the software checks the disk and only copies the changes. This means backups after the first one don't take long. The Carbon Copy Software check so it's only copying data that's been added and that's why I use software to copy. In addition to my external drives, I use Time Machine to back up my iMac and laptop. Although I've never had to restore from these backups, they were incredibly useful when migrating from an old machine to a new one.

When I leave home, I ensure that my drives are backed up and stored in the fire safe. The safe is bolted to the floor and wall, making it extremely secure. Plus, my head of security, Rodney the Doberman, keeps a watchful eye on everything.
