How To Get Better Google Ranking
This is what every website owner wants. Their page to be at the top of Google’s first page. Its the holy grail or results..! The thing is Google helps you to do this and all you need is the right page with right SEO techniques.
What is SEO…? How does it affect my website..?
SEO is short for Search Engine Optimisation. SEO is how a web page is translated in to information that can be used in a search. Google has become the market leader because they invest heavily in the development of this. Every time someone enters information in to a Google Search they are improving their results. Google’s algorithm will show pages based on the SEO and the page contents. If the page is relevant to the search it remembers this and the page is shown more frequently.
How Hard Is SEO To Implement..?
There are lots of ways that SEO can be implemented. Some affect the page more than others but together these 4 will help your page move up the rankings.
- Create meaningful web pages that are easy to understand.
- Use keywords that are relevant to the page content.
- Create a sitemap and robots.txt files.
- Submit your page, robots.txt and sitemap to Google.
Meaningful Web Pages
Creating a page packed with keywords can harm your SEO. Carefully inserted keywords that will help the reader are the best way to get higher rankings. Making sure that the web page is relevant to the keywords is crucial to getting better ranking. Google will show your page to people searching for the keywords that are specified in your META KEYWORDS area (More on this another time but its a section of HTML on your webpage where you describe the keywords). Google’s algorithm uses your Keywords to show your page when people enter them in a search. Google works out the relevance of each Keyword by how long people stay on the page. Your page is ranked higher as more people stay on the page.
What Are Keywords..?
Simply having the right information on your web page (as described above) is the first step to get your page ranking higher. The next step is to work out what Keywords people will use when searching for your page. These keywords are very important and they MUST feature within the page as Titles. Google knows that words placed in to Titles are usually very important. Its good practice to use Titles to highlight your keywords.
Finding Keywords
The best place to workout what your keywords are is by entering them in a Google Search. If the results show your competitors pages they’re the ones you will use. There are Keywords that should be obvious too. If your selling cars then “Cars For Sale” is the obvious set of keywords. These will then be used as the page title near the top of the page. There are more associated keywords displayed when you type “Cars For Sale” in to a google search. Scroll to the bottom of the page and Google displays more keywords that are relevant to the search. Including some of these keywords will also help your ranking.
What is a Sitemap and Robots.txt file..?
These files are very important and help Google understand more about your site.
1) Sitemaps: This is a special file that breaks up the site in to a map of pages. Google uses this information to understand the organisation of your sites content. As your website grows so will your sitemap which Google likes to see.
2) Robots.txt: This is another special file that lets Google know what to search and what not to search. This tells Google what its allowed to look at. Some sites do not need a robots.txt file but most do. Normally Wordpress and Joomla CMS websites use this to stop Google looking through the administration files.
